A new startup has launched in Portland, Oregon: Afghan-Indian Cuisine, a food truck run by Wahid Khanzada, an Afghan immigrant with 22 years of experience as a chef in Afghanistan. Wahid previously ran a restaurant in Kabul, bringing with him a deep knowledge of Afghan cuisine. Now, he is sharing the authentic flavors of his homeland with the people of Portland through his food truck, which offers a unique culinary experience blending Afghan and Indian dishes.
Wahid’s journey to the United States was anything but easy. After fleeing Afghanistan with his family of ten following the Taliban’s return to power, they embarked on a perilous journey through the Darién Gap, one of the world’s most dangerous regions, before crossing the southern U.S. border. Upon arriving in Portland at the beginning of 2023, Wahid faced numerous challenges as he tried to rebuild his life in a new country. Despite these obstacles, his hope and dreams kept him going, and he refused to let difficult circumstances stand in the way of his aspirations.
Now, Wahid has successfully launched his food truck business, located at 432 SW 3rd Ave, Portland, OR 97204. His goal is to introduce the rich and diverse flavors of Afghan cuisine to the American public, offering a true taste of his homeland. With a promise to bring the real taste of Afghan cuisine to life in America, Wahid is not only pursuing his dreams but also contributing to the cultural tapestry of his new community.
