Afghan Support Network

Collectively, over November and December 2024, ASN supported 572 unique clients and provided an impressive 2,508 total service touches, demonstrating our unwavering commitment to empowering and uplifting the Afghan community.

In November 2024, ASN officially launched its Career Development Programs through the Employment Department, successfully securing over 20 job placements for community members. Educational initiatives continued robustly, offering classes in Dari, Pashto, Quran/Religion, and English, alongside IT Certification courses (CompTIA A+ & CompTIA Security+), Parenting Classes for men, Women’s Madrasa, Robotics, and Driving Permit classes. The Recertification Program for Doctors also progressed, with 498 students enrolled across various programs. Additionally, ASN provided essential services, including 142 touches for Housing Assistance, 184 touches for Transportation & DMV Support, 90 touches for Employment Assistance, Health Navigation for 88 unique individuals, Legal and Immigration Assistance for 85 households, and Food Assistance to 5 families in need, totaling 1,107 service touches for the month.

December 2024 saw further expansion of ASN’s programs and services. The Career Development Programs continued to place more community members into meaningful employment. Educational programs, including language courses, religious studies, and IT certification classes, persisted, alongside the Women’s Madrasa, Parenting Classes for women, Robotics initiatives, and the Driving Permit & Driver Education Program. Service impacts for December included 161 touches for Housing Assistance, 216 touches for Transportation & DMV Support, 166 touches for Employment Assistance, Health Navigation for 45 unique individuals, Legal and Immigration Assistance for 75 households, and Food Assistance to 3 families in need, culminating in 1,401 total service touches for the month.

Afghan House (افغان کور – خانه افغانها): A Community Hub for All

We are excited to share that Afghan House (افغان کور – خانه افغانها) is now open and available for all Afghan community members in Greater Portland Metro and Oregon! Whether for gatherings, Fateha ceremonies, celebrations, or any other occasion—both in joy and sorrow—this space is dedicated to bringing the community together.

Previously serving as ASN’s office, Afghan House has now been transformed into a welcoming community center where Afghans can connect, support one another, and create meaningful memories. ASN’s office has moved next door, ensuring that the space remains fully accessible for the community’s use.

In addition to being a gathering place, Afghan House features a Game Corner and a Recreational Section, offering opportunities for families and friends to organize Movie Nights, Sports Watch Parties, and other community-building activities.
