The Afghan Support Network is the first culturally specific nonprofit organization that has been formed to target the needs of Afghan refugees and the Afghan-American community in the greater Portland area, Oregon & Southwest Washington.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Career Coach will be instrumental in supporting community members’ employment goals, from job search assistance to career development. This role involves developing partnerships with local businesses, creating employment opportunities, and providing job training and support services. The Career Coach will also provide job training, support services, and mentorship to empower individuals in their career journeys. The ideal candidate will have experience in in employment services, human resources, or a related field (workforce development), excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, and a passion for helping immigrant communities thrive professionally.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist clients with job search strategies, resume writing, and interview preparation.
• Develop and maintain relationships with local employers to create job opportunities for clients.
• Conduct workshops and training sessions on professional development and job market navigation.
• Provide ongoing support to clients to ensure job retention and career advancement.
• Collaborate with team members to identify and address barriers to employment within the community.

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience in employment services, human resources, or a related field.
• Knowledge of the local job market and employment trends.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and support clients.
• Proficiency in Dari or Pashto is a plus.
• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Social Work, or related field preferred.
• Certification in career counseling or job coaching is highly desirable.
