Volunteer Board Member
The Afghan Support Network (ASN) is seeking community-minded leaders, professionals, and advocates to join its Board of Directors and help guide the organization’s next phase of growth and impact.
Since its founding in 2021, ASN has become one of the leading organizations serving Afghan refugees, immigrants, and Afghan-American communities in Oregon and Southwest Washington. As the organization continues to grow, we are seeking board members who can contribute expertise, leadership, professional networks, and resources to strengthen our long-term sustainability and community impact.
Today, ASN serves approximately 400 individuals each month through culturally responsive programs, direct services, advocacy, and community-building initiatives. While rooted in and primarily serving the Afghan community, ASN supports individuals and families from all backgrounds, with a particular focus on immigrants, refugees, and other underserved communities throughout Oregon and Southwest Washington.
We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in one or more of the following areas:
Priority Areas of Expertise:
As the highest leadership body of the organization and to satisfy the fiduciary duties, the board is responsible for:
- Law and immigration services
- Fundraising, philanthropy, and donor development
- Marketing, communications, and public relations
Additional Areas of Interest
- Public policy and advocacy
- Financial management, wealth management, or investment expertise
- Corporate leadership and business partnerships
- Human resources and organizational development
- Community and civic leadership
We are especially interested in candidates who can help connect ASN to new donors, foundations, corporations, strategic partners, and community leaders.

The Afghan Support Network is the first culturally specific nonprofit organization that has been formed to target the needs of Afghan refugees and the Afghan-American community.

OUR VISION: A future in which all Afghans prosper and contribute to the success of their communities.
ASN provides culturally responsive services and programs in housing, employment, education, legal services, health and wellness, youth development, and community engagement.
Responsibilities:
Board members are expected to:
- Attend and actively participate in board and committee meetings
- Support ASN’s mission, strategic goals, and programs
- Provide governance and financial oversight
- Serve as ambassadors and advocates for ASN
- Support fundraising and partnership development efforts
- Leverage professional expertise, relationships, and networks to benefit the organization
- Follow ASN’s bylaws, policies, and conflict-of-interest requirements
- Maintain confidentiality regarding organizational matters
Commitment:
- Four-year term, eligible for renewal
- Participation in board meetings and committee work
- Personally meaningful annual financial contribution and/or active support of fundraising efforts
