3rd Annual Afghan Cultural Celebration 2026

Celebrating Afghan Heritage, Community, and Five Years of Impact

The Afghan Support Network (ASN) proudly hosted its 3rd Annual Afghan Cultural Celebration on Saturday, September 19, 2026, from 4–7 PM at Beaverton City Hall Plaza. Held during Beaverton Welcoming Week, the vibrant outdoor gathering brought together hundreds of community members for an evening celebrating Afghan heritage, culture, and community connection.

Families, friends, neighbors, artists, and entrepreneurs joined in celebrating the traditions that connect generations. This year’s gathering was especially meaningful as ASN marked five years of impact and community service.

The celebration featured a vibrant lineup showcasing Afghan culture and community talent:

🎶  Live Traditional Music & Rubab
  🛍️  Afghan-Owned Businesses & Vendors
🎨  Afghan Art & Cultural Exhibits
  🍴  Authentic Afghan Cuisines
🎤  Keynote Speeches by Local Leaders
  🎭  Children’s & Cultural Performances
  📖  Poetry
  💃  Traditional Attan Dance
  🏅  Recognition of Community Achievements

Relive the celebration – watch our event highlights below!

Afghan-owned businesses, vendors, and artists showcased traditional clothing, jewelry, handmade crafts, artwork, and Afghan cuisine. Their participation highlighted the creativity and entrepreneurship within our community while offering neighbors an opportunity to experience and appreciate Afghan culture.

We were honored to welcome Mayor Lacey Beaty; Beaverton City Councilors Nadia Hasan and Kevin Teater; Jessica Ventura, Director of Oregon’s Office of Immigrant and Refugee Advancement; Amra Biberic of the Oregon Department of Human Services; and many other members of community attended the event. Their participation reflected the partnerships that help strengthen community connection and belonging.

Guests enjoyed a rubab performance by Sameer, musical performances by Khalil, who especially travel from California to celebrate with us, bringing the sounds of Afghan tradition to the plaza and creating an atmosphere of celebration, nostalgia, and pride. And a spirited attan led by Sarbeland & his team, who traveled from Seattle to join us, brought energy and a sense of togetherness to the celebration.

Poetry and cultural performances further honored the stories and traditions that connect our community across generations.

Celebrating Community Achievements

A special highlight was honoring three community members whose accomplishments bring pride to the Afghan-American community in Oregon.

ASN recognized Rabiullah Panjsheri and Moheburahman Mohammadi for their achievements in martial arts and the discipline, dedication, and perseverance behind their success. We also honored Farkhonda Soha for her artistic achievements and for sharing Afghanistan’s culture, beauty, and stories with the world through her paintings.

Their accomplishments are both individual milestones and a shared community success, inspiring others to pursue their talents and aspirations.

Community Connection & Partnership

Throughout the evening, ASN staff and volunteers welcomed guests, supported youth activities, and shared information about ASN’s programs and services – connecting the celebration to our everyday work supporting individuals and families across the region.

The Afghan Cultural Celebration reflects ASN’s commitment to preserving cultural heritage, strengthening community connections, and creating opportunities for belonging across generations. As we celebrate five years of service, we remain guided by our core values of Home, Community, Care, and Culture.

Thank you to our partners & sponsors (Oregon Metro), performers, vendors, artists, staff, volunteers, and everyone who joined us. Your contributions made this celebration possible, and we look forward to coming together again next year!
